Cybersafety and Social Networking
Being cybersafe and a good cybercitizen is primarily about learning how to behave in the online environment. While technical solutions are part of ensuring safety and security, cybersafety in schools depends on people acting appropriately.
Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, AskFM and Snapchat have changed the way we communicate. It’s important you monitor your student’s behaviour on these sites and ensure they are being used in an appropriate manner. It is also important for our students to be cybersmart and think before posting material online. What you post online remains; our 'digital footprint', the trace left after something is posted online, never disappears. All web users have a responsibility to think of the consequences when posting information online to ensure it does not breach social, religious, cultural or copyright standards.
If the school administration becomes aware of inappropriate content involving our staff, students or school, our school uniform or images are used without permission, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the content is removed and where necessary, consequences issued. Our school is committed to promoting a safe and supportive learning environment and students involved in the posting of inappropriate material on websites may be disciplined in line with our school’s Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students.
As a school, Aviation High has a structured program dealing with safe and appropriate online behaviours, delivered to all students, across the year levels. Aviation High has also been working through the eSmart Schools Cybersafety Framework to ensure that the wider Clayfield and Hendra Community is supported to stay safe online. Aviation High will continue to work closely with our students and parents to support safe and ethical online behaviours. We are invested in strong links between home and school and we appreciate your support in monitoring your student’s internet activity and reinforcing this message at home.
