Writer's Toolbox is the academic writing program that underpins student writing across all subject areas at Aviation High School. This allows the school to the address the writing gap, enhance the writing of ‘A’ and ‘B’ students, and develop writing flair in students. Implementing Writer's Toolbox teaching strategies is a school wide priority, as is utilising the online writing tool.
Staff, both teachers and teacher aids, at Aviation High are trained in the Writer's Toolbox program and have experienced the success that our students experience when using the program. This is modelled in lessons.
The development of writing is mapped out across all year levels, where students learn writing skills in sequence at key junctures. Various faculties take ownership of the teaching of writing to develop the literacy skills of all students at Aviation High School. To further support students, they write for 5 minutes daily in their writing journals to develop and hone their writing skills.
