The PTECH - Data Analytics is the first of its kind in Australia and is grounded in research that demonstrates that the combination of STEM with a focus on teaching critical and creative thinking has a significant impact on student cognitive development and results.
The aims of the program include:
- To develop a collaborative, cooperative thinking culture within our school and local area that embraces innovation and creativity.
- To work with real world companies like BAC, Airbus and Qld Fire and Emergency Services to enhance by providing them with unique opportunities to engage in a variety of intellectually challenging academic subjects.
- To provide our students with an additional systematic learning pathway that compliments their education.
- To respond to the changing needs of our school community and to intellectually challenge our students.
- Providing the opportunity for students to complete University subjects offered through the University of Queensland. This would contribute to their QCE.
Aviation High School will offer a P-Tech Technology subject to selected Year 9 and Year 10 students which will encompass the skills of coding, digital analytics, artificial intelligence, project management, communication, presentation and team building. The purpose of the PTECH – Data Analytics Program is to explicitly teach the 21st century skills with the expectation of enhanced general capabilities such as:
- Improved ability to think critically
- Enhanced creative thinking skills
- STEM and Programming Skills
- Better communication skills
- Effective and proficient collaboration strategies
- Enriched personal and social development
- Increased proficiency in the use of ICTs
Eligibility Criteria in order of consideration
- Comparative academic merit with all other out of catchment enrolment applicants (applicable to out-of-catchment students only). AGAT Test.
- High standards of academic achievement as demonstrated on the most recent primary school report card and the Year 5 NAPLAN test.
- All Information provided in the student enrolment form.
Year 7
Applying for P-Tech Data Analytics Program of Excellence Entry
Students applying for Year 7 under this category of enrolment are required to sit the Aviation High School AGAT test. This test is used to spread and rank high-performing young students. Test results are the primary selection criterion for entry. In addition to the test results, students are required to demonstrate continued excellence in academic, behaviour and effort to remain eligible for a P-Tech Data Analytics Program of Excellence Entry enrolment.
A non-refundable and non-transferable Processing Fee of $100.00 applies for all Selective Entry Applications. Payments must be made prior to the enrolment interview and sitting the Aviation High School AGAT test by Direct Deposit.
Year 7 P-Tech Data Analytics Program of Excellence Selective Entry Enrolment Information Session
Enrolment Information Session will be held for parents and guardians of students enrolling in Year 7 via the Selective Entry program. Please register your attendance.
Once a complete application has been received and AGAT Test booked our enrolments officer will be in contact to arrange an enrolment interview.
Years 8-12
P-Tech Data Analytics Program of Excellence Selective Entry
Students applying for Years 8 - 12 under this category of enrolment will be required to sit the Aviation High School AGAT test in addition to completing the enrolment pack and enrolment application checklist . Students are required to demonstrate continued excellence in academic, behaviour and effort in addition to the test results to remain eligible for P-Tech Data Analytics Program of Excellence enrolment.
