Better Me AARMA (Awareness, Acceptance, Regulation, Motivation, Accountability)
are student-designed mindsets that built on the belief students are active
participants in shaping their own futures. Developed by students, for
students, over a two year consultation period, it captures what young
people believe they need to thrive beyond school and become confident, capable
and empowered adults.
Drawing on student ideas, experiences and aspirations, AARMA
is built on the belief that student voice matters. It provides a framework for
personal growth, helping students develop the capabilities that matter most for
success in further education, employment and life. It encourages students to
become reflective, resilient and responsible learners who are prepared to
navigate challenges, embrace opportunities and contribute positively to their
communities. It empowers them to take ownership of their learning, recognise
their strengths, set meaningful goals and build confidence in their ability to
create positive change in their lives and communities.
Importantly, AARMA provides students with a clear framework
for accountability in relation to school expectations and the Student Code of
Conduct. By developing self-awareness, self-regulation and personal
responsibility, students are empowered to make positive choices, reflect on
their actions and take ownership of their behaviour and learning.
AARMA empowers students to take ownership of their learning,
recognise their strengths, set meaningful goals and build confidence in their
ability to create positive change in their lives and communities. At its heart,
AARMA is about student voice, agency and self-efficacy. It recognises that when
students are heard, valued and trusted to contribute to decisions about their
learning and future pathways, they are better equipped to become capable,
resilient and empowered young adults who succeed in school, in their
communities and beyond.
