Award winning staff and students
We have consistently won more awards at the annual Aerospace Awards for both students and teachers with, not only, the top aerospace studies in the State multiple times but the coveted Aerospace Teacher of the Year Award six out of the last 13 times. Our staff have vast experience with over 40 years experience in teaching aerospace subjects in high school. Some have their pilot's licence and some with commercial and military aviation experience. Many of our staff are heavily involved in the Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program and Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
Alumni
Many of our graduates go on to work in the Aviation Industry whether it be as a commercial pilot, aeronautical and maintenance engineers, airport staff or military pathways. Many of our recent graduates have been given part time work while they study at university with Menzies Aviation in airside and landside positions.
Facilities
Our facilities include a hangar with two real aircraft for hands-on maintenance training, two Flightsim rooms (one brand new this year) with three Flight training programs, extensive aviation library, a small wind tunnel for testing aerodynamics, extensive range of UAV, model planes and rocketry.
Subjects
Our subject offerings include Recreational Pilot Licence training (Yes, you could have your pilot's licence before your car licence), Aerospace Systems subjects for those interested in further university studies, aeroskills and aviation traineeships for students pursuing technical trades in aviation and vast aviation work experience options for students wanting to experience the real Aviation Industry.
Junior grades cover basic aeronautical knowledge, space and rocket science, aviation history and aeroskills. Senior grades cover aerospace systems, aeroskills advanced, pilot training, and aviation traineeships.
Industry Partners
Our school is very fortunate to have built up a strong, mutually beneficial partnerships with various Universities, flying schools (including helicopter and fixed wing), and some of the major players; QANTAS, Virgin Australia, Nauru Airlines Corporation, Boeing, Airbus, Airwork Helicopters, QANTAS Pilot Academy, Brisbane Airport Corporation and Menzies Aviation.
Australian Defence Force
For students interested in a career in the Defence Forces there is an Australian Air Force Cadets Squadron (220SQN) based at the school from which many of our school leaders come from.
